Á sunnudaginn þann 27. febrúar kl 16 verður leikjakvöld hjá Brúnni í kjallara Hins Hússins. Þar verðum við með allskonar borðspil og heitt kakó og gúmmelaði. Ef að snjórinn helst eins og hann er þá er planið að fara á sleða aðeins, og enda inni í heitu kakói. Við eigum ekki marga sleða, en við getum verið með svarta ruslapoka. Sjáum hvað verður...

On Sunday the 27th of February at 4 p.m. the bridge will host a game night. We are meeting in the basement of Hitt Húsið and there we will have all kinds of games. There will be hot chocolate for everyone, and some yummy treats. If the snow stays like it is today we were also thinking about going sledding, and afterwards end up inside with hot chocolate. We don't have too many sleighs but we can use black bags if we wish. Let's see what happens...

B-movie night

Á sunnudaginn þann 21. febrúar kl 19 verður B-mynda bíókvöld á fyrstu hæð Hins Hússins. Inngangur verður í kjallaranum. Í boði verður pop og kók og nammi fyrir þá sem vilja, stór skjár og kósí sófar. Við verðum með nokkrar B-myndir í boði, þið megið velja.

On Sunday the 21st of February at 7 p.m. there will be a B-movie night on the first floor of Hitt Húsið. Entrance will be from the basement. We will have a few movies you can choose from. There will be popcorn and coke and candy for everyone, a huge screen and cosy sofas.

Definition for B-moves:
A B movie is a low-budget commercial motion picture conceived neither as an arthouse film nor as pornography. In its original usage, during the so-called Golden Age of Hollywood, the term more precisely identified a film intended for distribution as the less-publicized, bottom half of a double feature. Although the U.S. production of movies intended as second features largely ceased by the end of the 1950s, the term B movie continued to be used in the broader sense it maintains today. In its post–Golden Age usage, there is ambiguity on both sides of the definition: on the one hand, many B movies display a high degree of craft and aesthetic ingenuity; on the other, the primary interest of many inexpensive exploitation films is prurient. In some cases, both are true.

Kaiserschmarrn Pancakes

Á sunudaginn þann 14. febrúar ætlar austurrísk stúlka að baka fræga þjóðareftirréttinn Kaiserschmarrn pönnukökur. Hún ætlar að kenna okkur þessa list, og svo fáum við að sjálfsögðu að snæða á afrakstrinum. Mæting er kl 16 í kjallara Hins Hússins. Það eru allir velkomnir, og þeir sem vita ekki hvað Kaiserschmarrn pönnukaka er geta kíkt hér að neðan á skilgreiningu. Hlökkum til sjá ykkur.

On Sunday the 14th of February an Austrian girl will come and teach us how to back the famous Austrian dessert, Kaiserschmarrn Pancakes. After the baking we get a chance to taste and enjoy the fresh legendary pancakes. We are going to meet at 16 p.m. in the basement of Hitt Húsið. Everyone is welcome!

What is a Kaiserschmarrn Pancake?

The most legendary of all Austrian desserts: Kaiserschmarrn is something like a torn omelette. Its origin, in fact, is somewhat legendary itself: Torn omelettes ("Schmarrn") already had a longstanding tradition when Austria's last "real" emperor, Franz Joseph I demanded one such thing for dessert. His cook quickly created this simple Schmarrn from few ingredients. Inspired by the milk, he named it "Käser Schmarrn" (Cheesemaker's Schmarrn), which the old emperor misunderstood as "Kaiserschmarrn" (Emperor's Schmarrn).

Since you don't disagree with an emperor, the dish became known as just that. "Schmarrn" is also used in colloquial German like "rubbish" in English, describing inaccurate information or stories. I think that the legend of the name Kaiserschmarrn is just that…nevertheless, it makes a good story.

Vesturbæjarlaug

Á sunnudaginn þann 7. september býður Brúin í sund. Við ætlum að fara í Vesturbæjarlaug. Þeir sem vilja geta slappað af í heitum pottum, aðrir kíkt í gufu og þeir sprækustu synt nokkra metra kannski. Mæting er klukkan 16 í Hitt Húsið og við röltum saman upp í laug. Ekki gleyma sundfötum, það væri nú vandræðalegt en fyndið.

On Sunday the 7th of September the Bridge will invite everyone who wants to come swimming. We are going to Vesturbæjarlaug, one of the ancient and most lovely swimming pools in Reykjavík. Those who wish can chill in the hot tubs, others go the steambath and those who dare can swim a few miles. We are meeting at 4 p.m. in Hitt Húsið and are going to walk together to the swimming pool. Don't forget your swimwear, that could be a bit embarrasing but funny!
